What do parents do to volunteer?A lot, but it’s worth it. B-CC Crew is a totally volunteer-run organization. Each family is expected to be involved, and required to volunteer for different responsibilities as outlined below. Willingness to help is critical for the success of the team.
1. Drive/Pick Up for daily practices: At the Kick-Off Team Dinner in February the transportation coordinators will organize rides by parent volunteer drivers. It is expected that all novice parents participate in driving.
2. Work at Regattas: EVERY B-CC CREW FAMILY MUST VOLUNTEER AT ONE REGATTA. B-CC Crew is required to fill 90 volunteer slots at different regattas this spring. The overall organizing body, National Capital Area Scholastic Rowing Association, requires each club to supply volunteers for regattas. The club will be fined for no-shows. But it’s really fun! Volunteers direct traffic, work at regatta headquarters, staff the finish line, and ferry race judges to launches. At the Kick-Off Dinner in February the volunteer coordinator will further explain the needed volunteer jobs, dates have sign-up lists for all parents.
3. Bring snacks and water to regattas: Regattas can be a long day and kids get hungry. Parents volunteer to bring snacks (bagels, granola bars, fruit) and water to the regattas. The team has tents set up near the race for snacks, resting, and celebrating races. Each family is asked to bring a snack or water for one regatta. At the Pot Luck Dinner in February the volunteer coordinator will have sign-up lists for all parents.
4. Host or supply food for occasional Friday Night Team Dinners: On some Friday nights prior to regattas, the team and coaches gather together for fun, unifying, strategizing and rallying dinners at a crew parent’s home. At the Pot Luck Dinner in February the volunteer coordinator will have sign-up lists parents interested in hosting or providing food.
