Other MATA Cars
McKinney Avenue Transit Authority
Dallas Texas' own vintage streetcar line.
Providing fun transportation along McKinney Avenue 365 days and
evenings a year.
- Cars #183 and #189, not yet restored.
These are 10 window Stone & Webster "turtleback" type cars,
sisters to #186, and built on the same order. These "180" class
cars were operated over the years on virually every streetcar line
in Dallas and their return to service would herald an unprecedented
preservation event, three cars of the same class and order series,
preserved together and operating on the streets of their original
city. Cars 183 and 189 are awaiting corporate sponsors.

- Car #323, not yet restored.
#323 is a 13 window Stone & Webster
"turtleback" type street car build in 1915 as part of an order for
26 such cars for the Northern Texas Traction Company of Ft. Worth.
N.T.T. operated an electric interurban line between Dallas and Ft.
Worth, and Ft. Worth and Cleburne. They also operated the local
streetcar service between Oak Cliff and Dallas using the large "300"
class cars. When N.T.T. gave up rail service in 1934, the Oak Cliff
lines and all rolling stock was sold to the Dallas Railway Company,
which continued to operate the "300" class cars until 1952 when they
were all retired and scrapped. Car 323 is the only known example of
the Stone and Webster "stretch" streetcar in the world today.
Currently in storage awaiting restoration, she does not have a
corporate sponsor.

- Car #754, not yet restored.
This car was built in 1927 as part of a 72 car order by the
Dallas Railway and Terminal Company from the St. Louis Car company.
Originally a "Peter Witt" center door car with a two man crew of
conductor and motorman. Dallas Railway converted her to one man
operation and end doors by 1941. She is 48 feet long, and was the
last car to run in 1956. After abandonment, she was purchased by Ben
Carpenter, son of former Dallas Railway President John Carpenter, and
used as a play house for his children, and later, his
grandchildren. In December of 1994 the Carpenter family graciously
donated her to MATA in order that she might be retored and once again
serve the people of Dallas. Car 754 is awaiting restoration and does
not currently have a corporate sponsor.
