"Number 332, The Interurban"

332
This car is one of four freight motor cars built by North Texas Traction Company in their Handley, Texas shops. During the 15 years they were in service, they carried less-than-carload freight and picked up milk cans that farmers left at the sidings between Dallas and Fort Worth. 332 and all three of her sister cars were retired to an area farm where they were used to store grain. In 1992 332 was brought to the car barn where we began a thorough restoration. This is still a work in progress. When it is finished, it will be the first air-conditioned wooden bodied street car ever; an air conditioned dining car complete with bar, galley, restroom and seeting capacity for 36. In this capacity she will be used to handle MATA's charter and dinner train service. Preliminary investigation seems to indicate that she was built on the chassis of either a former interurban passenger car or an express trailer. This car is unique in that it was actually constructed in Texas. Car #332 is still in need of a sponsor to expedite timely completion of her restoration.
This photo shows the Interurban in the car barn with new window frames applied to most of this side.
