Car #122, "Crescent Rose"/"Rosie"

122
Rosie was built by J.G.Brill of Philadelphia in 1906, for export to Oporto, Portugal. She ran there for over 75 years in public service. In 1980 she was purchased by an Oregon based firm which leased her to the city of San Francisco, California, where she ran on the Market Street Railway as part of the Trolley fest in the late 1970's. While in California, she was bought by MATA, brought to Dallas and restored. In July of 1990, one of her motors went out. In addition to getting her motors thoroughly refurbished, we "re-restored" her, adding a lot of structural rigidity with new steel angles and braces. She even got new leaded glass clerestory windows. On May 14, 1992, a small parade heralded Rosie's return to service. With red velour seats and old world charm, Rosie is definitely the Grand Dame of our fleet. Car #122 is thought to be the oldest streetcar in daily service in North America, and is sponsored by Rosewood Properties and The Crescent.
