sperate miseri caveat felices [translation] Though I agree that people are sometimes more reticent to eat raw fish than they should be, I think it's generally appropriate in the United States, since most of the country isn't close enough to a source of water that provides appropriately fresh fish for raw consumption. Japan, on the other hand, where one could practically walk to the Pacific from any point on the island, has a better chance of getting most excellently fresh fish. Add in the fact that fish in the United States are often brimming with all sorts of chemical nasties, and Old Testament pronouncements on shellfish start to make a lot of sense.
I just think perhaps we should respect our environments by recognizing
that everyone's conditions are different; what's good for the Magellan
