I'm not sure where I picked it up originally, but I have this odd phrase
I use when asking for assistance in locating things: "If you were [noun],
where would you be?" It often provokes smiles, and always gets results.
Well, except for yesterday, when I was looking for snacks for the
gathering:
Me: If you were nuts, where would you be?
Her: [blank stare]
I did eventually find them, fortunately.
