If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it's still a foolish thing.

Moving II: Ecletic Bugaboo

Oh yah, noticed the old entry that said I'd consider this a work-in-progress until I posted it on my main page. Well, it's mainly being served from the main page now, but I really still consider it a work-in-progress. Just so's you know. (Dammit, there's that "so" word again!!)

Yet another human triumph over technology!!

Okay, I figured out the problem with entries disappearing. I'm pretty sure this counts as a feature rather than a bug, but when I had disassembled the original template in favor of my own, I had mistakenly put a date tag wrapping the entire entry area, so under certain circumstances I'm guessing it would just error out without printing anything useful.

So now I can ramble on incessantly on whatever crosses my mind, with no worries of losing anything. Lucky you!

'Course, as soon as I know that what I have to write isn't going to be lost to some capricious scripting feature, I can't think of anything to write about now.

Sigh. This is truly shaping up to be a boring page. :)

This is a test.

I've typed out some pretty long, involved entries, only to have them disappear when I add another entry right after it. It's pretty annoying, and I haven't figured out any obvious cause for this.

It's not happening to other people I know who use this software, so it must be something I'm doing wrong.

Am I missing some closing tags somewhere? Is my template screwy? Maybe it's bad karma?

So far the only thing I can tell for certain is that it's only longer entries that are affected. Thus this entry, to test that hypothesis.

So?

I use the word "so" way too much sometimes.

BTW:

This page is an excellent resource on html colors. Now if only I weren't colorblind...

Movin' right along!

Ahhh, this is better. Of course, the other pages are all still hoerked up, but I'm liking these fonts and page setup better. And now I have fancy links on the lefthand side, and search boxes for other sites, and all sorts of other snazzy stuff.

I'm still considering it a work-in-progress, though; I suppose the day I post it to my main page instead of leaving it here in this subdirectory is the day I consider it truly live.

Plus, I gotta work on the entry interface. My older Netscape browser just doesn't like this javascript junk.

Here we are, blog to blog...

Well, this is it. I finally have given in to the urge and have setup a weblog.

Pretty snazzy, eh?

I'm still trying to figure out some of the features, like how to get away from this horrible default format, but I think that involves learning how to use cascading style sheets, and that sounds complicated, so I'm being lazy and just writing this instead.

I don't really like how Moveable Type (MT) is so reliant on Javascript, and the fact that it seems to favor IE users, yet the server-side setup is all *nix...it just seems strange to me. But I guess that's how most users have things--the server is running *nix, and the client is running Windows. Or I guess Mac would count as well, since it's got IE. Weird realizing that sort of thing.

Okay, that's officially a Deep Thought. It's definitely time to conclude this entry.
