Renovations and Additions
Renovations & Additions of Aitken-Sadlik Architects
|
As with our custom residential work, our approach to renovation and addition is to apply universal
principles of design within an appropriate architectural vocabulary. Our goal is to achieve a final
result that is more than the sum of its parts.
Additions can be
contextual, contrasting, or
transformative.
A contextual addition is designed to blend with the existing structure; some contextual additions
can be difficult to discern from the original structure. Others augment the existing building in a
way that complements both.
A contrasting addition makes no attempt to blend with the existing structure. This type of addition,
which is not common in residential architecture, is often chosen when adding to an iconic or historic
structure.
A transformative addition revises the existing structure in such a way that the resulting finished
design is radically different from the original.
