Sketchy Characters

As a comic book fan, I've been fortunate to attend a number of conventions — from small local get-togethers to medium-sized alternative press gatherings to huge, huge events such as the San Diego Comic Convention. Along the way, I've met a number of talented writers and artists working in the industry, and I soon discovered that many are willing to do simple sketches on a pad if you're a fan of their work.

I'd filled two sketchbooks with sketches before I decided to try a theme book. That book, with the theme of "Time," can be seen at "Time" Pieces. Before that, however, I would go up to artists asking for characters I liked that they had worked on, sometimes ones that hadn't been done in some time (See those by Dan Jurgens and Joe Phillips, for two examples). Along the way I developed two preferences: Legion of Super-Heroes characters, and heroes who run fast.

Since I have upwards of 80 unthemed sketches, I've broken down the sketches in these ways: alphabetically by artist last name (A-K and L-Z), by those themes above, and by the company that owns the character (DC Comics, Marvel, etc.). Please navigate using the menu on the left.

Please enjoy these sketches. If an artist does a sketch for free (and they often will, but please do not sell the drawing later), please offer to buy their book or donate to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Thanks!
