B’ros
Weyrling to Brown Ledoth, No Weyr
Mother and father rode bronze and blue / And they were wingleaders, too
Else was his home, his Weyr / But he could have lived most anywhere
"I'll be a rider" -- so self-assured / But by plucked gitar strings, he was lured
"A Harper's life for me" his motto / And it's true: His voice does a nice stacatto
"He just doesn't have the knack" / The Weyrharper said behind his back
So between poems Buros was a steward / His dreams of Harpering he nurtured

And then: first love -- her name was Dawni / As they say in Nerat, she was quite bonnie
A muse! And quite a cute behind / But his initial advances she politely declined
Finally she relented to a kiss / Oh, such rapture! Such bliss!
A promising romance was on the way / Then she was Searched the very next day
She put things on hold, then Impressed green / Frustrated, Buros didn't cause a scene
"Wait 'till I graduate" she promised / The first few months were the roughest

But Buros survived, and time did pass / And then it was time for Between class
Now Dawni was a bit of a tease / She'd wink and joke until you cried, "Please!"
A showoff, Buros' inspiration / She goofed off without supervision
She flew up with the weyrlings / Rukbat's rays dancing across her green's wings
And then she was there no more / But she'd done this before
Black, Blacker, Blackest! She Betweened / Fourteen left Else, but at Who Knows: 13

She was gone, no body, no trace / Oh, the look on Buros' face
Shock, denial, he fell into a funk / One night he got very, very drunk
To Forsaken, then. Why not? / He couldn't stay at Else; he missed her a lot
Just days there, the volcano blew / And so to No Weyr on Juleth he flew
Back at a Weyr, and then Searched / Good news overall, but first his stomach lurched
Dragons hummed, eggs began to rock / Then, << I'm Ledoth! >> What a shock

A weyrling, little time for rhyming / But poetry is more about inspiration than timing
So he may yet write a great ballad / Not that great, if we can be candid

Ledoth
The dragon before you may be sooty and morose in appearance, but the voice in your head is anything but. As Ledoth makes himself known to his beloved B'ros, he also pulls out all of the stops on his sheer exhilaration at having managed to find the best person on the sands for his very own.

Noodled Egg: This tall egg appears somewhat elongated and flattened, almost as if it was accidently sat on during the clutching. Its base is a pale buttery-yellow, with wavy striations, forming a bed for the rest of the egg. Here, the surface appears rough, as if its been rolled something fine grained. From the light and darker brown colouring, it appears as if toasted breadcrumbs might be the closest approximation.

Ledoth Description: As if someone had let a reed basket get too close to a fire, the hide of this dragonet is blackened and smudged, but glimpses of rich, dark brown occasionally show through. Nor have his wings escaped the fire; they are as glass which has been covered in soot, with only the veins and spars showing forth unblemished black walnut. His red-orange hatchling-hungry eyes shine out like coals after the fire has died, the two spots of true brightness on this otherwise blackened dragon.

Personality: Ledoth is a dark and mysterious dragon, gloomy and morose.

Oh, who are we trying to kid? As if staunchly going against anything which might be indicated by his particular shade, Ledoth is generally playful and easily amused. Large for his color, he isn't exactly lazy, but he is also not the fastest dragon on Pern. His stamina more than makes up for it, and he will definitely be a contender for gold flights, even if greens tend to slip through his paws more often than not.

He is extremely intelligent with one of the longer memories, possibly as much as four days. Don't be surprised to find some of your poetry being spoken by other riders, because Ledoth is just going to love it in the same way Dave Barry talks about people loving some of the, urm, more clumsy things Barry has done -- Ledoth will gleefully share this incredibly amusing stuff with any dragon who will listen, and some might pass it on to their riders.

Ah, infamy. This isn't to say that he would ever hurt you intenionally; Ledoth's love is bold and outspoken, with frequent encouragement. It's just that he doesn't get angst, and therefore thinks you must be kidding. All in all, he may be a foil, but more likely his personality and yours will blend into each other rather than constantly be at odds.

Buros/B'ros’ name was inspired by three sources: chiefly, Drake Burroughs who is also known as Wildfire in the Legion of Super-Heroes. Drake was a hot-headed character (literally), an energy being forced to live in a containment suit, and denied forever the chance to touch his longtime love, Dawnstar (from whom I got the name Dawni). To a much lesser extent, Buros is named after pulp and science fiction author Edgar Rice Burroughs. Beat poet William S. Burroughs is a tenuous inspiration as well, though I don't plan on doing that sort of poetry with B'ros.
