J'cobi, Blue Moloth's rider at Monaco WeyrMonaco Weyr, Belior Rising MUSH, Interval before Tenth PassJacobi the childBorn about 45 turns before the Tenth Pass, Jacobi was the classic weyrbrat, getting into trouble with the cook, the wingleaders, and just about every staff member at his home at Monaco Weyr. He never seemed to get into any serious trouble, though, because he was lucky enough to be the son of one of the leaders in the Weyr, J'col. J'col, a bronzerider and sometime-Weyrlingmaster, managed to convince most people that his son was fairly innocent. It was in this way that Jacobi grew up, making friends with a number of children, also of riders of the Weyr. He grew up into a tall, slender youngster of fourteen who was set to apprentice in the Harpercraft. In fact, he had made it all the way to Robinton's Hall and was scheduled for an audition one morning. However, green Blaeth of Monaco Weyr was also visiting that morning, and she was quite insistant that Jacobi return to Monaco and stand for an upcoming hatching. Jacobi the CandidateJacobi was wisked back to his home, disappointed because he had actually looked forward to leaving the Weyr for the first time in his life. It was in this state of mind that Jacobi joined a candidate pool that included a shy young Seacrafter's daughter named Yancie. Suddenly rejecting a lot of his former friends because of his abrupt change in career, Jacobi found a fast friend in Yancie.Yancie was drawn to Jacobi less because he would make a good friend, and more because she quickly developed a strong crush on the thin, brown-haired youth. She kept her feelings to herself as she sensed Jacobi's need for someone new he could trust with his personal problems. The two were often inseparable, arranging so they had the same chores, and Jacobi began to cheer up, and warm to the possibility of being a Monaco Rider. Before Jacobi knew it, draconic humming interrupted a break in the WeyrHall between chores. He, Yancie and a crowd of candidates rushed to the sands, and before he knew it, Jacobi had Impressed Teal Blue Moloth. To his surprise and joy, his good friend Yancie had Impressed a green dragonet, Granth. J'cobi the WeyrlingMoloth became a bit of a jolt to J'cobi's personality, and in a way he returned to the carefree personality of his youth. He and Moloth became the most impulsive pairing in their Weyrling class. To Yancie's surprise, J'cobi began showing much more interest in the greenrider. In fact, he wanted to move a little faster than she wanted, despite warnings by the Weyrlingmaster, and she rejected him for a time. No matter to J'cobi, he wasn't exactly interested in a specific girl, just one who was willing to spend "extra" time with him.Yancie went off on her own, still as shy as she'd been before Impression, and kept things to herself. This would be J'cobi's biggest mistake, because it led to the accident. During Between training, Yancie decided to see if he could impress J'cobi and win back his friendship by being the first to go Between. J'cobi was on hand to see her disappear, but she and Granth never came back. Her death hit fifteen-turn-old J'cobi hard, and he withdrew for the rest of the training. He had few friends, but mostly kept with Moloth. When they graduated into wings, J'cobi was asked into the Precipice Wing. J'cobi the young riderFor the next nine turns, J'cobi acted as an adequate wingrider in his wing, Nothing of note happened during this time, except when he was 20 his father died of a sudden bout with a fever. This caused J'cobi to re-evaluate things and he cheered up a little, making a few more friends.Around his 24th turn, J'cobi's blue had a number of successful flight wins in a short amount of time. The heightened social (and sexual) relations J'cobi experienced during this time seemed to re-awaken his latent free-spirit and he reinvented himself as a ladies man. Aggressively winning a number of green flights, and bedding himself with a number of Weyr, Hold and Hall women, J'cobi was happy for a period of four turns. When he was 27, J'cobi was named Assistant Weyrlingmaster and helped the current class learn how to care for their dragons. He enjoyed the role, and probably would have continued with it if not for the second accident of his lifetime, this time with his own weyrlings. During a routine wing training, two browns collided in a delicate maneuver which J'cobi had designed himself. When their wings tangled, the two browns jumped Between and only one emerged, high above the Weyr. The brownrider was never found, and J'cobi declared himself responsible. J'cobi the mature riderInstead of withdrawing this time, J'cobi eased his lifestyle a little. He quit his job as Asst. WLM and devoted a time to Watchridering. Finally he rejoined his old wing, Precipice, and served as a steady wingrider for many turns. Moloth occasionally wins flights, though he and his rider are not as aggressive anymore in terms of romantic relationships.J'cobi has a number of friends, mostly around his age or older, at the Weyr, and keeps to these, and Moloth. Every female rider he sees reminds him of his lost love, Yancie, and he's reluctant to find a permanent mate even at his age.
Lately, J'cobi has grown worried about his promiscuous life turns ago,
and every teenager around the ages of fifteen and eighteen is seen to him
a possible illegitimate child. He alternates between simply avoiding
these teenagers and acting as a protective paternal figure around them.
In his mid-forties, J'cobi figures he may very well meet one of his
children one day and he remains uneasy at the thought.
