Like most other 9C1 &
Caprice Classics, the silver chrome trim ring around my rear taillights had
become corroded and detracted from the look of the car. With mine still black
and white, I thought it would look better painted flat black to match the 9C1
wheels. After removing the housing, I decided to attempt to remove the trim and
painted separately. After breaking a piece of lens in an inconspicuous place, I
decided to paint it on the housing. I used paint prep after scrubbing the
corrosion off with steel wool. I used high heat flat black paint and several
light coats. As you can they turned out well. I have washed the car by hand and
in a mechanical car wash and haven't seen any problems.
l understand there are other mods that can be
done to "brighten up" the output as well as LED lighting. However my
current theme of the car is strictly "performance undercover". So
there won't be many visible mods to the average person.
