Ttto Wings, Cat Faber
Lost in the plaza for hours I stood
Wishing to fly, I'd forgotten I could
Trapped by enchantments the mortal world sings
Under my coat I had wings
One amid thousands, unnoticed, alone
Caught up in wonder at weather and stone
The strange fascination of matter and things
Under my coat I had wings
Cloaked in the darkness, someone spied me
Piercing illusion that should hide me
Word, touch, and gesture all awoke me
Bursting the bonds that seemed to choke me
Freed to return to my home far above
Without looking back, I'm aware of his love
(His) light fiery touch on my shoulder still stings
Under his coat he had wings
Though his allegiance is infernal
His longing need not be eternal
His master never is forgiving
My master welcomes all things living
Ours is the present, by gift of free will
To shape our own futures for good or for ill
`He chose to free me; we'll see what that brings
Under his coat he had wings
Lee Gold and I independently wrote followers to and ttto Cat Faber's "Wings" that fit together with the original to make a single larger story. Lee published both followers in Xenofilkia #84, August 2002.
