From the day that each of us was born
To the shores of Triple-Oh
We have never known quite where we were
Or just which way to go.
As we stagger on from year to year
At our ragged, stumbling pace
Let us raise a glass and drink the health
Of the struggling human race.

Here's to those who make and move the stuff
That keeps us all alive
And to those whose charge is all our good
That the common weal may thrive
And to every woman, man, and child
Born of Eve and Adam's line:
May we all be doing twice as well
In twenty-ninety-nine!
