In August, 2001, I was taking part in a discussion on the newsgroup rec.music.filk. I was quoting three previous participants and my own earlier post, and I realized that the others all had nicknames that they used in filkdom and in their .sigs:
[keshlam:] <<Joe Kesselman>> [keris:] <<Chris Croughton>> [Mark M.:] [RoboFilker:] <<Joe Ellis>>
I was so struck by the contrast that I signed the post as "Mark M., the Filker With No Nickname", and I've been calling myself that, on and off, ever since.
