ttto "Little Fuzzy Animals" by Frank Hayes
There are squirrels in the treetops, there are field mice in the lawn,
There are bats that swoop between them in the sunset and the dawn.
But far better than your tree-rat or your field- or flittermouse.
I like the little fuzzy animals inside my house.
I've got little fuzzy animals,
Little furry animals,
Little fuzzy animals inside my house.
In the dining room we've guinea pigs, and gerbils in the den,
Though the census tends to vary, it has gone as high as ten.
Since they're cute and entertaining, I've no reason to complain
About our little fuzzy animals with not much brain.
We have little fuzzy animals,
Little furry animals,
Little fuzzy animals with not much brain.
But my ancestors and in-laws would have had a different view,
For rodent pets are something they were not accustomed to,
And the fears that they inherited were not the least bit vague
Of the little fuzzy animals that spread the plague.
There were little fuzzy animals,
Little furry animals,
Little fuzzy animals that spread the plague.
Then I think of other ancestors from further distant times:
Such prejudice, I'm sure, would be the last thing on their minds.
They'd regard my fuzzy pets without anxiety or fuss
'Cause those little fuzzy ancestors evolved to us!
Yes, those little fuzzy ancestors,
Little furry ancestors,
Little fuzzy ancestors evolved to us!
