ttto "The Boxer", Paul Simon
I am just a fanboy, and my story's often told.
I have squandered my allowance
on a backpack full of videos and anime.
None of the best,
still, a fan sees what he wants to see
and disregards the rest.
Hmm-mm-mm...
When I left my home and my family on the way out to this con
I was one of five otaku
in the hubbub of the Trailways station, laughing loud.
Then lying low,
seeking out the midnight movie rooms
where the media fen go,
crashing where hotel security don't go.
Lie-lie-lie [...]
Seeking fannish conversation, I walked 'round the dealers' room
but I got no talk there,
just a come-on from the hucksters
and their merchandise.
And I admit
that I bought some bootleg fansubs
whose translations were pure sh-t.
Hmm-mm-mm
Lie-lie-lie [...]
Now I'm counting up my dollar bills and wishing I was home,
going home,
where the high-price hotel restaurant's not bleeding me
for feeding me...
In the consuite stands a fanboy, an otaku as he's known,
and he carries the remainders
of his cash, and all the videos he's purchased,
And he cries out
in his hunger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving",
but the fanboy still remains.
Lie-lie-lie [...]
