ttto "Flatten the Grass", Cat Faber
Dedicated to the Philadelphia Parking Authority:
Ingenious in signage, vigilant in ticketing, diligent in removal
I find in the evening eight times out of ten
The spots at the curb are all taken again.
There's nowhere to park on this block or the next.
I can't shake the feeling that somehow I'm hexed.
I'm an old driver of cunning and skill,
If I need to park, then I can and I will:
Downtown or in traffic, at work or at home,
I always find parking wherever I roam.
-- BUT ...
CHO: Circle the block, circle the block,
How I hate having to circle the block. (2x)
The Parking Authority says that I may
Park here any time but the second Thursday
Or seven to ten, except Sunday's all right,
Though I could be towed if I stay overnight.
But this other sign says all stopping is banned
Though a car with a driver's permitted to stand
For up to five minutes... and somebody else
Has stolen the place that I wanted myself!
(chorus)
The sign on this parking lot says that the rate
Is five dollars more if you leave after eight.
It's owned by a fellow who lives next to me;
He lets me stay later for no extra fee.
He's hired new help; it's a nasty surprise,
'Cause I spent my last cash on a burger and fries.
The new guy insists on the money he's owed
And the next ATM is a mile down the road.
(chorus)
