Branches on the Lawn

Branches on the lawn
after the snowfall,
branches on the lawn,
my yard looks awful:
half my lovely tree
in splinters, logs, and chunks!

Just a little snow,
no wind a-roaring,
half a foot or so:
it would be boring
if it hadn't filled
my property with junk.

Branches on the lawn,
my favorite elm tree lost those
branches on the lawn!
Can someone tell me, when I
said the arborist's
visit could be missed,
would things now be very different
had my conscience been insistent?

Now this view of white
snow filled with rubble
brings me no delight;
it's only trouble
ever since the dawn
showed branches on my lawn.
