Written for the Boskone 40 (2003) Theme Concert "The Return of..."
Last night I went out with some friends to a movie
After take-out Chinese from our fav-o-rite place.
We saw "The Return of Revenge of the Son of
The Bride of the Thing From Beyond Outer Space".
Whoopee ti yi yo, run away, little Earthlings,
It's your misfortune and none of my own.
Whoopee ti yi yo, run away, little Earthlings,
Your planet is somebody else's new home.
The monsters are green when they aren't bright purple,
And played by big guys dressed in foam rubber suits.
It's hard not to laugh when we notice the zippers
And the patented tracks of their Timberland® boots.
The brilliant young scientist peers through his telescope,
Spots the huge spaceship that threatens the world.
But no one in Washington's willing to listen
(So it's) all up to him and his pal and his girl.
So they drive to Canaveral to steal them a spaceship.
The girlfriend distracts the lone sentry on guard.
While the buddy hot-wires the rocket's ignition
And the model blasts off out of someone's back yard.
Then the good guys and the aliens face off in Death Valley,
Which we are supposed to believe is the Moon.
But Mongolian beef gave us all indigestion
And we spent the last hour stuck in the rest room.
(chorus, this verse only)
Whoopee ti yi yo, got the runs, little Earthlings,
It's our misfortune and none of your own.
Whoopee ti yi yo, run away, little Earthlings,
Your planet is somebody else's new home.
Well, the girl friend is cute and the hero's eye candy,
So tomorrow it's potluck at Jeremy's place,
Then return to "Return of Revenge of the Son of
The Bride of the Thing From Beyond Outer Space".
