Assorted Shards

Being a repository for shards that don't fit into any of the categories I've established.

External references to Brust

This section is intended as a sort of inverse of the Jokes and Allusions page.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (video game)

[2003-05-27] Myranda Kalis writes:

There's actually a Steven Brust reference in a video game entitled "Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain," published several years ago for the PlayStation One. In it, the main character (a vampire nobleman) describes one of his weapons as being created by "the mysterious Serioli," a race since vanished from his decadent and crumbling world.

Colors

[2003-05-27] For the colors of the Dragaeran Houses, see The Houses of the Dragaeran Empire.

Genealogy, etc.

Vlad, Kieron, and Aliera

Vlad is the reincarnation of Dolivar, Kieron's brother in the days of the founding of the Empire. Aliera was their sister(?). [Jrg 114-15, Chap. 9, BoJrg 83]
(Thanks to Linda G. for the citation.)

Cawti's parentage

Greg Dougherty wrote (in 1999):

Well, I asked Steven Brust at the most recent Minicon who [Birgitta and Miklos'] daughter was, and he said she was Cawti.

And David Goldfarb added:

Steven Brust did a signing at The Other Change of Hobbit in early '92, and he told me the same thing then.

And in 2002 Brust confirmed it publicly on rec.arts.sf.written in reply to a question from Konrad Gaertner (pointer found on The Lyorn Records):

And if you are reading this, Mr. Brust, could you officially confirm or deny that rumor about Miklos' daughter? Or at least give us an official "No Comment"? This does affect the timing discussed below.

I'm not reading it.

Okay, I lied. Yes, Cawti is Miklos's daughter.
