Guidelines:
Keep track of the score!
Complete silent score keeping can result in bad exchanges and horrible misunderstandings. The server should try to call the score every second serve; Try to prevent the “is it 8-6 or 7-5 or 7-7” in the third set debates; at least make an effort to be on the same page with your opponent so that bad feelings do not develop. It is human nature to get mentally sidetracked in a tough match; so keep this in mind.
Serves:
the vast majority of members in our club are USATT members and can visually define legal and “less than legal” serves. Recently, a number of the service rules have changed; it has not been easy to get all (ITTF Professional) players to move into these new sets of rules(let alone Pottsgrove League players). As such, if your serve tends to have a very short toss and does not show a contact point—you are going to be in for a very long day at a real tournament with real umpires/refs; please be a good sport and keep your serves as legal as possible.
Warming up:
Each player has different needs in terms of a solid warm up; if you are the kind of person that needs about a
half hour to get things clicking—then feel free to use the warm up period to work out you kinks.
It is way not cool, however, to do this kind of warm up during a league night. 3 to 5 mins is a realistic
warmup time before starting a match.
