My Floridian Excursion

As you can tell from the more or less personal nature of my recent posts, we Atduskmen are still scattered across the land, musicplaying-less and recuperating. That will change as soon as my jury duty ends and I head back up North and we begin yodel training. But hush! Lest a reveal my hand.

I just returned from my jaunt to Florida, where I visited my Dad, stepmom and 6.5-year old brother. It was great to see their new digs, catch up and play, but I'll keep my comments here related to music.

1) I got my brother, Sean, his first guitar, something he's been talking about for a year or two, which is a pretty significant chunk of his young life. It's an Epiphone 1/2 size black Les Paul w/ gold hardware. Essentially a micro version of my first guitar, which lives in Russia and Summer Camp tuning these days. He carries it everywhere - including to the barbershop and the airport, in my experience - and it's every bit as cute as you might imagine.

2) My Dad, furthering his tradition of giving me stuff (often literally including the shirt off his back, in a bizarre example of parental instinct) with a batch of his old record collection. A boon! An original, vinyl copy of the Beach Boys' Smiley Smile. Very exciting. I'll bone up, what with the release of Smile and my seeing at Disney Hall in a month. Whack!
