Distant Voices

Distant Voices

Music & Lyrics: Gary J. Ehrlich c 10/96

Emerged after reading an article about researchers cloning one big slab o'cow seven times.

     G Em
When we set down upon your world
   C Am
Of forest green and rivers blue
   C Em D
We did not know the wonders we would find
  G Em
A crumbled city, ancient place
      C Am
Where once a had lived a wonderous race
     C Em D7
Your murals spoke of music filling sky

CH	C D Bm Em
Distant voices echo back from ages long ago
	    C Am C
D7
The common language that we share; the notes that rise and
flow
	    C D Bm Em
Now when I set off traveling, no fears can steer me wrong
	   G Em C G
As long as in my mind I always hear your calming song

Awoke with music in my head
Led to a place we thought was dead
A wondrous being stood before us there
In fear, my partners caused you wounds
I understood your mournful tune
Sat down beside and sang away your fears

CHORUS

We brought you home on trail of fire
Through sudden storm of ion's ire
We thought our minds would crack from sonic shock
But from the hold your soothing croon
Cleared minds and saved our lives from doom
Your notes laid down a path to station dock

CHORUS

And now you live with humankind
We've shared traditions steeped in time
You;ve taught us how to speak in note and rhyme
The magic that your music brings
It cures and uplifts when you sing
A bond we'll carry with us when we fly
