albatrosserie sera

by d.b. hambling

get thee safely
behind the old answering book,
she sullied,
with a fine-toothed scowl.
the nearer the wellwishing swallow
fits in,
the better
for all
parish islanders.

follywash,
cried terrence,
be off with that gobbledy gander,
and stay alert, childish lance,
for be it frosted overly
feeble
or fallow,
all the king's musketeers
might just as soonly be pinched
for a casing
of scallops.
