MoonClan at BlackElk
OverView
MoonClan at BlackElk is a family-of-choice founded (in 1980) by Moon Hawk-Watches, aka Darkmoon of Ragnarok. The family currently consists of more than 40 Hearthmates ranging in age from 63 to 17, over a dozen children, and more than 2 score more affiliates in 11 states and 3 countries.
The members of MoonClan are a varied lot, with a range of interests as varied and as broad as can be imagined. At our hearthfires may be found scientists and mystics, techies and gardeners, blue-, white- and black-collar workers. However, we have in common a love of the Earth and a belief that all people are children of the same Mother, thus are all related one to another and must be cherished and protected.
To these ends, the various members of MoonClan are engaged in many ongoing projects, both individual and collective. These projects include {but are by no means limited to}: We of MoonClan believe in community and we support all those whose orientation and/or purposes are in keeping with the essential traditions of MoonClan. As we find them, more individuals and groups will be added to this list, but currently, they include:
- Dani Windrydr
My favorite "Shield Sister": Mother, Healer, Teacher, GIT, Celtic Medicine Drummer... and, she makes a mean cucumber salad!
- Erynn Rowan Laurie

- Joanne Rand
Her new WebSite is finally on-line!
What more need I say of this magical dream-singer?

Of course, we live in a world of commerce, and many of our hearthmates, friends and affiliates are merchants and shopkeepers as well as artists and artisans. Since, naturally, we want these folk and their endeavors to thrive, we offer links to various businesses and services which are part of the World of MoonClan:
- Serendipity's Circle
horror-fantasy on-line gaming mag;
- Gargoyles Statuary
4550 University Way NE in Seattle's U District; a great little shop run by Gayle Nowicki and a cool crew of neat folks, selling top quality crafts and artwork, much of which is made either by local artists or by members of aboriginal tribes and nations.
[This is, BTW, a blatant plug for some folks I really love! Go buy something from them!]
- Rusted One Designs
her crocheted pieces have won prizes... Kat Lady is another soon-to-be famous artist; check out this site to see why!
- Rebecca Hensley, Web Mistress
Lynnwood-based web designer and cyber-technician... a great gal!
- Speakeasy Cafe Information Trading Post
2304 2nd AV (@ Bell); a full-service ISP [Internet Service Provider] and host of R.A.I.N. {Remote Access Internet Network], this Belltown-based nerve center of the Cyber-Citizen movement is, sadly, no longer providing cutting-edge spoken word and great live music... our self-appointed Guardians of the Public Mind have shut them down.["Sieg Heil!"]
[BTW: The lovely Lady Cat helped me get this beast up and running Christmas week... Cat, You are a GOD!]
- Green Tortoise Tours
cross-country travel with a difference;
- Astrology et al
Now in Wallingford after gracing the U District for decades. Maggie and Greg have a spacious, split level store with the same great spirit.
Webless in Seattle... [and elsewhere!]
- Raven
What can I say? I LOVE her art! If and when she puts up a site, it'll be spectacular! She's also one of MY preferred resources for Egyptian and mesoAfrican lore, and an accomplished musician as well. One of the most powerful personalities I know [Nebula, eat your heart out!], and one of the sweetest, as well. (she's a beauty, too!)
- Edge of the Circle
701 E Pike St [@ Boylston] in Seattle's Broadway district; no web site [yet?!] but Robert and the motley horde carry an excellent [and growing!] assortment of books and ritual supplies, (usually) good information and some lively conversation, as well.
- Travellers
501 E Pine St. Uncle Leon and friends are now "on the Hill" serving up art treasures, organic/wild herbs and spices and other beautiful exotica from the Himalyas, along with a great assortment of teas and healing elixers, and a soothing, energizing atmosphere!
- Arcadia Comics & Games
5228 University Wy NE on the Upper "Ave"; the Lady runs a nice little shop, with a choice asortment of Anime [for sale or rent], Comics/Manga, Graphic Novels, Gaming Supplies, and Trading-Card Games and single cards; RPGers, ask about the Gaming Room;
- Horizon Books
now 3 locations: 8570 Greenwood Av N, 6512 Roosevelt Av NE, and the original shop @ 425 15th Av E on Capitol Hill; the cat has departed [RIP, dear sibling!] but these are still the same folks who (successfully!) hunted down a no-longer-in-print -- and never widely read -- Sci-Fic novel for me back in 1977;
- Northwest Garment and Gear
4254 Fremont Av N, a few blocks up the hill from the Fremont Bridge. The proprietor, Carol Douglas, is a charming lady and her staff does quality repair work FAST! [they fixed my shoulderbag in a couple of days] They also carry great-looking dance clothing and other gear. Carol is "waiting for the Y2K debacle to sort itself out" before putting the shop on-line. Don't wait that long to stop by!
- 5 Corners
610 Colombia St SW, near the Transit Center in Olympia's Downtown; small but eclectic shop is a great source for books, ritual supplies and good fellowship in the South Sound area -- especially if you're interested in the Norse Way of Troth; Tony and Danielle are fabulous people who helped preserve what remained of my sanity during the year I resided in Oly... and they also do Reiki! [tell 'em Moon sent you!]
- Bravo Espresso
23120 56th Av W, in front of the Mountlake Terrace Market; Personality PLUS(!), and about the best 'spro in two counties!
Like it or not, we humans are a contentious lot, continually seeking ways to advantageously resolve our conflicts. Recently it has become fashionable among certain groups of self-defined "intellectuals" to disdain politics as manipulative and those who practice it as dishonorable, "sleazy". This attitude, of course, carries within itself the seeds of its own fulfilment as honorable people are dissuaded from such involvement, leaving the tools of social, legislative and judicial power in the hands of those venal souls lacking in conscience.
As politics, and its higher manifestation, diplomacy, are the best alternatives yet devised (at least on this world) to violence, and its "higher" manifestation: war, civil- and self-interest alike demand (as we are reminded by no less an authority than Thomas Jefferson) vigilant involvement in the political process by the most honorable, the most human among us, if for no other reason than to prevent the venal, the grasping, the greedy from imposing their will on everyone. To this end, the United Solidarity Alliance was founded as a central forum and organizing entity to further the principles of commonality, interdependant sovereignty and responsible liberty.
Also, We will attempt to provide a list of "service sites" -- places wherein may be found useful information to help users guard against fraud, and save both money, time... and aggravation.
Finally, there will be, in these pages, an ongoing effort to open dialog on various issues of importance to the members of Moonclan, to invite discussion by and with thinking, feeling individuals from all over this planet, and to make known to those same individuals ideas and opportunities which come our way here at MoonClan. This will primarily be done through Observations From A Point of View, a newsletter written primarily by E A Aldridge.
