(66K) SD38 #6934 and slug 1101 pull a cut of cars eastward out of the Frontier Yard arrival tracks. Once the cut is in position, the units will push the cut westward, up and over the hump. Photo was taken from the Harlem Road overpass. September 6, 1995.
(57 K) As there are several chemical manufacturing plants in nearby Niagara Falls, NY, USA, a considerable amount of chemical traffic passes through Buffalo, NY, USA. Much of it is classified at Frontier. DUPX 29614 is representative of some of the more unusual chemical carrying cars. September 6, 1995.
(45 K) After recrewing, an eastbound TV train accelerates out of Buffalo. The power was LMS C40-8W #727, CR SD60M #5540 and SD60 #6751. September 6, 1995.
(43 K) CR SD60M #5595 and LMS C40-8W #733 pull a cut of cars out of Frontier Yard. Photo was taken on Broadway Ave. September 6, 1995.
(37 K) When Buffalo Terminal becomes congested, trains begin stacking up. This allows the observer to get roster and detail photographs. This is one of the more interesting detail shots I have. The cooling intake louvers on CR SD60 #6777 have somehow been damaged. So, if you accidently apply too much solvent to those beautiful Cannon & Company parts, he's the prototype for it. September 15, 1995.
(46 K) Many trains recrew at "Broadway", which is actually Old Broadway Ave, adjacent to the "new" Broadway Ave underpass. This location is a popular railfan hangout-- there is almost always a railfan there. When trains are not stopped on the mainline trains (in the foreground of this photo), the southwest end of Frontier Yard is visible. Conrail B36-7 #5001 and GP40-2 #3342 are moving light through the yard so that they may be turned on the wye, behind the 89 ft flatcar. September 14, 1995.
(54 K) It's not everyday you see a flatcar carrying another flatcar. Conrail #725529 is carrying TTWX #972988. September 14, 1995.
(56 K) Buffalo, NY, USA is also a busy international border crossing. Highway traffic crosses the Peace Bridge while rail traffic crosses the International Railway Bridge. Canadian National runs turns over the International Railway Bridge, down Conrail's belt line and into Frontier Yard. After cutting off their inbound train, CN #6008 and CN #5362 are being turned on the wye track. September 14, 1995.
(58 K) Canadian Pacific also operates transfer runs into Frontier Yard, from both Canada (via the crossing at Niagara Falls) and from subsidary Delaware & Hudson. CP #4231, #HLCX 5011 and HLCX #4001 pull a cut of cars out of the east end of Frontier Yard, just east of the Harlem Road overpass. September 16, 1995.
(54 K) This is a going away shot of the same motive power. September 16, 1995.
(59 K) After recrewing, an eastbound TV train pulled by CR C40-8W's #5620 and 6097 accelerates out of Buffalo. On an adjacent track, Southern Pacific SD45 #7538, Conrail C40-8W #6162 and Conrail C40-8W #5535 push a cut of cars back into the yard. Conrail #5535, not visible in this photo, looked as if it had recently been hit by a paint truck: the C40-8W had white "splat" marks on the fireman's side of the cab. September 16, 1995.
(73 K) Awaiting a recrew, a coal train powered by Conrail C40-8 #6028 and SD60M #5581 idle just east of milepost 434. This train was brought into Buffalo by four units-- Conrail C40-8W #6185 and SD40-2 #6506 led #6208 and #5581. Apparently, the crew cut off the first two units and used them as their taxi into the Frontier Diesel Terminal. September 2, 1995.
(58 K) A run-through freight with Burlington Northern Santa Fe motive power accelerates out of town, past milepost 433. January 30, 1996.
