MEN'S ROOM INSTALLATION

The men's restroom is a site that hosts many dualities. It’s both public and private. It’s both queer and straight. It provides a place of isolation in which people find companionship. But these are all black and white definitions. Of interest to me is the in-between, such as the split second transformations induced by a gaze through a mirror. A period of time where nothing is definitive. Rather, the very process of defining itself results in a myriad of potentials being brought to the surface for evaluation, consideration, and eventual elimination by each participant. That moment where eyes meet eyes is an intersection that is influenced by every component within the site, with the resulting manifestations casting their own prejudices and influences into the mix, insuring a constant change of flux.
