1. Her parentage varies according to the author. In his Commentary on Homer's Odyssey, Eustathius said Scylla's father was Triton. Neither Homer nor the Greek poet Stesichorus names Scylla's father but both mention her mother: Crataeis according to Homer (Odyssey 12.124) or Lamia according to Stesichorus. Hecate and Crataeis were the same according to Apollonius Rhodius, "Hecate, whom men call Crataeis" (Argonautica 8.428).
