Stephen Schildbach was born in 1968 in New York City. He grew up in New York State, Maine, and Connecticut. He recieved his BA in fine art at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and an MFA in illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. After going to school, he moved to Brooklyn, NY and worked as a graphic designer at a book publishing company in New York City. In search of a place that would complement his personality and interests, he moved to Seattle, WA in 1995.
Stephen Schildbach has been illustrating and living in Seattle for five years now. His work can be seen in a wide variety of magazines and newspapers. Such magazines include: Utne Reader, Seventeen, and Consumer Reports. In addition to editorial illustration, he has illustrated childrens books, textbook covers, book covers, CD covers, and posters. One poster is for the 2000 NW Folklife Festival. Occationally, he will have an exhibit at a cafe or salon in Seattle. When hes not painting, he likes to go biking, hiking, skiing, roaming around the city, and seeing all the other art forms going on in Seattle.
