Apex Belltown Co-op
Creating an intentional community since 1982

The Apex is a limited-equity housing cooperative located at First Avenue and Bell Street in Seattle's Belltown district. Apex provides its members with affordable housing and community facilities on a nonprofit basis. Apex seeks diversity of all types in its members and caters especially to people eligible for low-income housing.

We Own It!
Apex members (there are about 25 of us) collectively own and operate 35% of the building (the owner of Egbert's owns the remaining portion). This ownership translates to a lot of freedom, responsibility and community involvement on the part of members. For more information on how Apex came to be, read about our history .

Living Space
The co-op consists of two floors of housing that used to be a hotel. Members have their own living spaces with sinks and intercoms, which come in three sizes: triple, double and Zen units. There are two shared kitchens and four shared bathrooms on each floor, complete with beautiful mosaic work and clawfoot tubs (not in the kitchens).
There are laundry facilities and lounges on each floor as well. A roof deck offers a sweet view of Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, Mt. Rainier and downtown Seattle. For more information about how you can become a member, check out the Live at Apex page.

Participation
We exist because our members are actively responsible for running the co-op. That means everything from cleaning the toilets to refinancing our loans. Members must do weekly chores (we have a rotating list), participate in work parties, attend monthly general membership meetings and participate in committee meetings. We have three committees: Building, Finance and Membership, which also meet once a month. In addition, members must serve on the Apex Board of Directors at least once every three years.
