Wally Shoup is a compelling and passionate saxophonist and veteran free improvisor,having been involved in playing and organizing since 1974. He is among a handful of Americans who have devoted themselves exclusively to the practice of free improvisation.

During the course of his involvement with music, he has (among other activities):

Appeared with Project W as opening act for Sonic Youth on their Thousand Leaves Tour, Moore Theatre, Seattle.

Appeared at 2001 Vancouver Jazz Festival with Nels Cline

Played with a wide range of American improvisers: Davey Williams, LaDonna Smith, Jack Wright, Toshi Makihara, John Oswald, Nels Cline, Dylan Van der Schyff, Jeffrey Morgan and many others.

Played with European improvisers: John Russell, Alan Wilkinson, John Jasnoch, Paul  Hession, Mick Beck.

Toured Europe with dancer Mary Horn 1985.

Made a solo tour of England1993.

Participated in many festivals, including Du Maurier, Bumbershoot and Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Organized numerous improvised music performances, including the Seattle Improvised Music Festival and the Other Sounds Series.
