Well, the Bright Eyes show at the Caledonia was
just awesome. I was pretty excited to see that they changed the show
up a little bit from the last show that I saw in Austin. It was kinda
funny, It had been exactly 2 months since I had seen them play last.
Unfortunately, the batteries to my camera died midway through the show,
but I did notice that several people were taking pictures and perhaps someone
else will submit pictures to the site. Check the performances
section soon and i'll have a set list for you. For those of you fortunate
to be in Atlanta, they are playing an early show tonight at the echo
lounge. I suggest that you arrive around 8:00 p.m. In other
news, "Fevers and Mirrors" is on the brink of release and a benefit compilation
entitled "t>a>z> comp" featuring an unreleased bright eyes track is in
the finishing stages. You can contact David
Lewis of hozomeen press for more information. If you have subscribed
to the bright eyes mailing list, I have tried to keep you abreast of all
these new announcements early. If you would like to join, just write
me and let me know. Thanks!--Parker

I received some wonderful news last week.
Bright Eyes will be coming to Atlanta next month. For all of you
Athens/Atlanta folks, they are expected to play the caledonia and echo
lounge near or on May 19th. Once I know more about the exact times,
i'll fill you all in. I'm sure the saddle
creek site will have updated tour dates included soon. Anyone
up for following them around the south for a few days and catch some additional
shows? Kathy was kind enough to write up a review of the sxsw
show and a description of the trip. It is a great read so you should
check it out here or in the performances
section. There are a few additions to the site: The lyrics
section has expanded but "fevors" is still incomplete. Soon enough,
i'll be able to finish those off. The links
section grows too and more and people seem to be writing reviews and articles.
Since I have been learning how to play guitar lately, I'd really like to
add a guitar tabs section to the site. Has anyone figured out any
songs? Enjoy. --Parker

Wow, I have so much to talk about. I had an
absolutely amazing time in Austin. I met so many wonderful folks
out there at the saddle creek showcase and the tigerstyle/insound show.
It was really cool to finally meet all the people in person that I had
been in contact with through email over the past year. In the next
coming weeks I'll have a lot more to announce and more content to add to
the site. Right now, however, I am leaving for Italy for a week.
I might be a little slow with email, regular mail (for those who are expecting
stuff from me), and the mailing list, but i promise to make up for it soon.
I apologize in advance for the delays.--Parker
3-10-00:
I am pretty excited. I just got off the phone
with the car rental place and I have reserved a car for March 17th.
One week from now my roommate and I (and maybe some others), will be speeding
toward Austin, TX for SXSW from Atlanta. Following the show, come
back to visit. I bet I'll have more stuff to share. The mailing
list continues to grow, and the site has received about 500 hits in its
first month. There has been some talk about guitar tabs over at the
Saddle Creek web board. I think this would be a great place to put
them. If you have them, please write me to make submissions.
I can't really play guitar, so this is up to you. Since the last
update, I have added some new images,
and scanned in the different vinyl
version artwork to "Letting Off the Happiness." More soon.
Please write me to join the
mailing list or just to talk. Thanks--Parker
2-28-00:
Lyrics section
completed (o.k. except for some 7"s)!
2-24-00:
In the last month or so two new compilations have
been released featuring tracks from Bright Eyes. One of them, the
"Second Thoughts" comp, features an unreleased track. The other compilation
is called "Fanfare of 2000!" and is an import from Contact records out
of Japan. Unfortunately I don't know anything about it. You
can check the discography section
of the site for some images and other details.
You may have noticed that I added a lyrics
section to the site. Everyone can thank Kathy
for making this happen. She even added some new photos to the Images
section. So thats what is new as of now. With Bright Eyes continuing
to be so prolific, i'm sure this site will struggle to keep up to date.
If you want to join the Bright Eyes mailing list just ask.
I am considering adding a guitar tabs section to the site so please either
write me to tell me you would be interested or if you have any submissions.
Thanks everyone!
2-1-00:
I got this email a few days ago:
Conor is currently on the west coast on vacation with a friend (left
3 am to catch a plane a week ago) and supposedly playing a few shows over
there. He might be home now, but haven't seen him around yet.
Also there is a new line-up. Joe Knapp got booted from the band
(for reasons beyond my knowledge) and in his place, Roger of a local show
called 'pirate radio' has taken place as the drummer. A new keyboardist,
i think his name is Ian, is also part of the current line-up. But
as always, the line-up is ceaslessly changing with Conor's interest and
mood. Conor also has another band called "keno", which is russian
for "film". Kinda funny since there is already a popular-russian
band called "keno"...
Joe and ex-room mate and b.e. bass player chris fischer of unread records
have a band called Ambulance. Conor played with this band once, who
knows if he is in it.
Pointless info: Conor's bathroom isn't tile (i.e. "and i close
the door and rest my head on the [lenoleum] floor").
1-29-00:
The mailing list is growing by leaps and bounds
and I have heard some interesting tales from a lot of you. I appreciate
it very much. All of this communication has inspired me to work on
the site quite a bit. Check it out. I have added some stuff
in the images, performances,
discography, and links
section. In the planning stages are a lyrics section. So far
I have had only one performance report. I need all of you to think
back to past shows and attend future ones. Beg or steal for the set
list. Incomplete or blatantly wrong past set lists are welcome.
Feel free to make submissions. I'd love photos, gossip, and especially
biographical information (the only section left incomplete, wouldn't it
be great to get some autobiographical info? I can only wait).
I may have some juicy info for you guys later so check back again soon.

1-28-00:
There are to be 2 new bright eyes albums coming out in march.
The new lp called...fevers and mirrors...as well as an insound ep that
does not yet have a name. A few of the new songs that were played
at the Omaha show will be featured on the ep. The ep is to (hopefully)
also feature a few songs by a band called ambulance. which i also
play in. Conor's roomate Joe writes the songs...and it is really good stuff.
you will enjoy it for sure. After that bright eyes is too tour japan.
as well as a 2 month tour in the spring...after that in summer time
there will be a new album on unread. a split lp with bright eyes
and ambulance. so there is lots of great stuff coming up. Submitted by
Chris Fischer.
1-20-00:
I thought it might be a good idea to generate a
Bright Eyes mailing list. Basically it would be a way for me to be
able to tell all of you when I do updates to this site and keep you all
informed as to what is going on. If you are interested in joining
the mailing list, please write me.
This function might eventually evolve into some kind of web board in the
future, but for now it might just be a forum for communication.
I also want to add a "performances and set list" section to the site and
hopefully a "lyrics" section too. I am going to need a lot of help
with though. So far I have only seen Bright Eyes play once and a
lot of their material was from the then unreleased "Every Day, Every Night."
I made a shoddy, incomplete template
for everyone to check out. Please take a look and help me fill in
missing dates and the set lists.--Parker
1-5-00:
Again, it has taken me quite some time to get off
my duff to provide new news info. And again I don't have a whole
lot of new stuff. I have a plan to change all that though (read more
below). Lately, I have been getting some email from folks out
there with questions about or for Bright Eyes. I love thinking that
my site is getting hits, but I wish I could be more helpful. A fella
by the name of Ross was kind enough to provide the new bright eyes graphic
for the main intro page. I have had several people ask me how they
can get in touch with Conor. The way things are going with my "I
dunno" responses I might have to conjure up a disclaimer or an FAQ.
Or maybe not--I really like hearing from everybody and writing them back.
If you want to write me just click here.
So plan A (writing Conor a letter) failed miserably, so I am moving on
to plan B. This Friday, Greg (one of my roomates) and I are hitting
the road for Chicago. We planned on doing it before (to Omaha) but
this time we have already procured a rental car. 13 hours.
We are going to put over 2,000 miles on a Dodge Neon in a weekend.
If you guys go to the show and see two stiff-legged folks who have doritto
crumbs lodged in their sweaters and smell like a roadside rest area, thats
probably us. I am hoping by driving all that way that we can convince
someone in the band to talk to us and maybe let us take a few photos.
Maybe finally, this site will have some content. If you are going
to the show let me know, maybe we can meet up and grab a milkshake or something.--Parker
10-20-99:
Well it has been quite a long time since I have
added any material to this web site and for that I apologize. Part
of the reason for this is that I don't have a lot of new content.
If you check the discography section you will notice that i have added
some pictures of the 7"s. I have made some feeble efforts to get
some real content going here. About three weeks ago I sent a goofy
typewriter written note to Conor himself in hopes that he would check out
the site and maybe get in touch with me so that I could conduct some kind
of interview and obtain some biographical information. If any of
you know Conor personally send him in my direction. I'll be nice.
Yesterday was the record release show for Bright
Eyes in Omaha. My friend Greg and I had this crazy plan to rent a
car for a few days, skip work and drive the 16 plus hours to see the show
(we both live in atlanta). In order to minimize the number of days
that we would have missed at work we would have had to stay awake for about
38 hours straight. However, things didn't work out. We rationalized
the situation by saying "It's just an EP, we'll make sure we get out there
for the next full length right?"
So the EP is titled "Every Day and Every Night."
and is due out October 1st. There are two real audio songs on the
saddle creek website that
are worth checking out. They are also available on the sounds page
here. There is also going to be a Bright Eyes article in the upcoming
issue of Magnet magazine. Check the links section for Rocket Fuel's
(kinda crappy) interview with Conor.--Parker
8-6-99:
Not a lot of news as of yet. I started designing
this site two days ago and I still do not have much information on Bright
Eyes. All I know right now is that their athens, georgia show on
August 4th, 1999 continues to fuel my interest in this band and inspires
me to continue to create this website. I am currently in the process
of obtaining information. If you have any content that you would
like to contribute to this site please write at pjohnson@speakeasy.org
If things work out I'd like to create this site in coordination with the
band. If you haven't yet heard Bright Eyes, I suggest you check them
out. Please check the tour page and see if they are coming to your
town. I promise you will see something sincere.--Parker
