Video Heroes (v2.0)

The Red Baron flies through flame-streaked skies,
bearing death on double wings.
He hunts his enemy high and low,
the ace who's hounded him to and fro,
but his search no vengeance brings.

(Chorus:)
For the beagle has landed!
The children tell me when
It's time to drive to the video store again.

The strain and strife of an insect's life
can make science or art or schlock.
But if I have to be watching bugs
without hallucinogenic drugs
I'd rather have [spoken:] "Ehh-- what's up, Doc?".

A boy named Ash brings in lots of cash
With the power of Pikachu.
But to figures and cards and to video games
And to all of the toys with the franchised names
I say, "Pokémon, I refuse you!"

A young child's toys have their sorrows and joys,
Be they plastic or metal or wood.
But their second adventure is not so sweet:
They're out of the house and they're onto the street--
Watch out for the Toyz 'n the Hood!

Worlds grow old and suns grow cold... um. Long before that happens, movies and tv seasons outlive their time and become passé. Fortunately for us all, Snoopy is immortal, but when I wrote "Video Heroes" around 1995, all the verses except the first were different. One by one I retired them and wrote new verses. You can visit the originals in their retirement home.
